History of the exhibition
The exhibition was originally scheduled to open on Thursday, February 19 in the Beth K. Stocker Art Gallery at Lorain County Community College. I was in the gallery finishing the installation on Wednesday evening, February 18, when an alarm went off around 5:30 PM, and we were told that the entire campus of Lorain County Community College was being evacuated. An arsonist had set a fire in the tunnel area under the Business Building, and smoke from the fire spread through the tunnels to many of the other buildings on campus. Luckily the gallery was located far enough away from the smoke that only a minor odor was noticeable in the gallery area, and my artwork was not damaged. Other parts of the campus were not so lucky - it is estimated that the cost of repair and replacement will be at least $1M. After much discussion and reevaluation of when facilities could be used, the opening reception was held one week later on February 26. The following photos are of the installation and the opening reception.
